Politics, muffins and squirrels, OH MY

These were the topics of discussion today. Let's start with politics, last night President Obama gave his State of the Union address and from what I heard (sorry I didn't get a chance to acutally watch it, I know I am a bad citizen) it was pretty good. Our conductor, Don, heard an idea presented by the Green party that we go back to having state banks (i.e. The State Bank of Illinois) and that would generate revenue to the state. Don was also quick to point out that this would probably not happen due to the objections of the big banks like Chase, 5/3, and others. He also stated that was the first time that he can remember that he agreed with what a politian has said.

Muffins: Everyday when Cathy and Edith walk through the train station in the morning they pass by a sign that rolls through different ads on a timer. However, Cathy is convinced that someone is watching for her and flipped the ad to the Conern Bakery blueberry muffin ad just as she is walking by. And if this keeps happening then she will be forced to walk into Corner Bakery and buy a blueberry muffin.

Squirrels: Joe sent a picture of a squirrel that had died but was still hanging onto a wire by it's teeth. This was a really strange picture that he took in his back yard. He challenged us to figure out how long it had been there. Some of us said a week, a month or until we saw nothing but bones. It generated some conversation, which is what I think he was going for. Thanks Joe!

Well that's all for the this episode. Tune in next time to see what happens

Remember when...

It was just Edith, Cathy and Tina that stood in the vestibule? I don't remember that but I am sure that their lives were not as rich as they are now :) This conversation started this morning because most of us were off yesterday due to the MLK holiday and while it started off with things that I didn't remember it ended up going to things that I do remember, like when Howard was our conductor. Ahhhh the days of hearing corney dirty jokes before work or hearing the sounds of Christmas music coming from his tie. Those were fun times. I also remember when Joe was riding our trian I learned so much about all sorts of different things. Those were fun times too :) We all have good memories of the train and I hope that this blog keeps those alive.

What do you remember?

Westerns

Today the topic was Westerns, the good 'ol westerns from back in the day. I am talking about Bonanza, The Lone Ranger and Gunsmoke. I am a little young to remember when these were new shows but I do remember the theme song to Bonanza (hey it was on reruns when I was a kid). We learned that the orignal Lone Ranger, Clayton Moore, died on 12/28/99 and just a few weeks ago was the 10th anniversary of his death. we also learned that there was another Lone Ranger after Moore and that was played by John Haft.

When I was a kid in the 1980's I liked Westerns but wasn't as into them as kids were in the 1950's but I do appreciate them. I do remember having a cap gun in the form of a Colt .45 but that was as far as I went.

It was a good talk today that lasted the entire trip which made the trip go by fast.

To see what happens next stay tuned and don't turn that dial...

what I learned today

Today I learned that Tony's on Elston has really good selection and great prices and is most likely the only place on the Northwest side that has green bananas. There are a few other Tony's locations but they are not as good as the one on Elston. I am not saying this from personal experience I can only rely on Cathy's experience.

I have also learned that our conductor, Don, likes the show Conspiracy Theory hosted by Jesse Ventura. I have learned that the government is most likely lying to us about everything and that they are hiding the aliens in Area 51 and that global warming is becoming an issue to make some dude really rich. It's because of the rediculous claims that I love a good conspiracy theory. I love to see who thinks they have figured out what the government is hiding and how they are the only ones who know. I have no doubt that the government is hiding things from us and I am ok with that.

It is true that you do learn something new everyday, no matter how random, strange or seemingly insignifigcant it may be, you have knowledge now that you didn't have before.

Until next time...

Normal day

it was a normal day today on the train ride in. A little lighter volume than normal but that was good since we basically had the whol vestibule to ourselves. Although Jim was not there today nor did he let us know that he was not going to be on the train today which is an unexcused absence. We have not yet come up with a good punishment system for unexused absences but rest asured this will be dealt with (Just kidding) :)

Well this is going to be a pretty short post today but I had some time so I thought Iwould let people know what went on today (mainly Joe cuz I know he misses us deeply) :)

Until next time at the same Bat time on the same Bat channel

Adivce

One thing that I love about our group on the train is the advice that Cathy and Tina and Edith are willing to give me, a man that is newly married and whose wife is going to have a baby. So Cathy from now I really will "write this down" :) So I learned today that a man is to visit his wife in the hospital after she has their baby on a regular basis. So I am writing this down so that I don't forget (and to help any other expectant fathers in case they are not aware) :)

I will be sure to be right by my wife's side throughout the entire pregnancy and throughout the delivery. We are very excited about this as it will be our first child and at the same time we are scared to death.

This was the conversation today, what will the conversation tomorrow be? Tune in tomorrow and find out :)
